Jerusalem – As Israel reels from the aftermath of the Jerusalem gay pride parade stabbing and prepares to lay to rest 16-year-old victim Shira Banki, one leader in the religious gay community says that preventing further attacks like this will require a huge change in the Israeli religious establishment.
Shira Banki, 16, who was critically wounded after being stabbed during the Jerusalem Pride Parade on Thursday by a Jewish terrorist, has succumbed to her wounds after a three-day battle for her life. Banki is an orgran donor.
A riot broke out in the haredi neighborhood Beit Yisrael in central Jerusalem on Saturday night, after large police forces used heavy force to arrest Rabbanit Yocheved Grossman, on suspicion that she knew the haredi stabber who attacked the controversial gay pride parade last Thursday.
Six people were stabbed at the Jerusalem pride parade on Thursday evening, police said. The suspected attacker had carried out a similar attack on the parade 10 years ago.
