Do not be fooled by some of the messages you get through on WhatsApp.
Scammers are targeting the popular messaging service to get hold of users bank details.
Fake emails and messages are sent to users asking them to update their payment information after being told that their subscription to the service is ending soon.
Users are then required to update their payment information, handing over their bank details, and pay a 99p one-time fee to use the service whey they first download the app.
That original subscription fee was stopped after Facebook bought the company for £11.4bn in 2016.
A spokesman for Action Fraud said: “Whilst late adopters of the service might look at the email below and simply brush it off, long term users will remember paying and could quite easily think the app has gone back to its subscription model and get caught out.”
Earlier this month a similar scam did the rounds asking users to pay 99p for a lifetime subscription by following a link.
ActionFraud are advising those who think they may have fallen victim to the scam to run antivirus software on their phone.
