A longtime Daily News sportswriter was busted Thursday on the Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel for allegedly having more than $12,300 in unpaid tolls and penalties, authorities said.
Julian Garcia, 42, of Montville, NJ, was pulled over at around 5:30 p.m. allegedly after trying to blow through another toll.
Officers realized that he owed $12,300 in penalties and impounded his car, according to law-enforcement sources.
The bald-headed scribe was charged with theft by unlawful taking and theft of services.
He was released by police and given a Feb. 3 court date to appear before a Hudson County judge.
Garcia has been writing about local and national sports for the Daily News since the late ’90s. His latest article appeared Dec. 23 about a high-school basketball game.
He has also penned pieces on Manhattan public school football, scandal-plagued Little League baseball player Danny Almonte and a more recent column on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick protesting racial inequality.
