A disturbed man who threatened police with a glass bottle in his Bronx home died Wednesday evening after they Tased him, sources said.
Cops responded to a 911 call from a neighbor who said the man was waving a knife in a Pelham Bay home at about 5:30 p.m., according to police sources.
Three officers and a sergeant entered the residence and discovered the 49-year-old man armed with an unbroken glass bottle.
Amid an altercation, the man was Tased in the torso by the sergeant and apprehended.
In custody, the man went into cardiac arrest and police immediately administered CPR.
He was then transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he died at about 7:30 p.m.
A neighbor described the troubled man as a “good guy.”
“Never bothered anybody,” said the neighbor, Leon Spetas. “Didn’t think he would go like that.”
The incident comes just weeks after the Oct. 18 death of Deborah Danner, an elderly schizophrenia sufferer who was fatally shot in her Bronx home by police after threatening them with a baseball bat.
The Danner shooting was criticized by local politicians because cops did not deploy a Taser to subdue her.
