Cops have received 104 tips from people about the unsolved murder of Karina Vetrano, who was beaten, strangled and sexually assaulted while jogging in Queens, officials said Thursday.
Many of the tips came in after NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce appeared on the television show “Crime Watch Daily” on Monday to discuss the investigation.
A clip of Vetrano, 30, jogging shortly before she was murdered was aired on the program.
Boyce said some of the tips have yielded new information, but he said there was nothing new to report Thursday.
The video, filmed near Spring Creek Park on Aug. 2 at 5:46 p.m., shows Vetrano jogging in black Spandex shorts and a running top about five hours before her body was discovered in a stretch of high weeds in the park.
Her father, Phil Vetrano, and a search party found her body.
Cops have struggled to find her killer. A DNA profile of the murderer has been built, but it does not match anyone in local and national DNA databases.
On Monday, Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said detectives are hoping that someone in the country will see the video and step forward.
Investigators are also hoping that someone recently arrested will match the DNA already recovered.
“I think we have done all that we can to try and keep that story alive in the public mind and consciousness because it spreads such fear through the city,” he said Monday.
A Gofundme page created by Phil Vetrano has raised $277,352 for information that will help catch the killer.
