NOHO, Manhattan – An Orthodox Jewish man was slashed on a NoHo subway platform in a possibly random attack Friday morning.
The victim, in his 50s, was slashed in the neck and hand on the No. 6 platform of the Bleecker Street station at Lafayette Street just before 3:30 a.m.
He is in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital.
The victim was wearing traditional Hasidic clothing and is believed to be from Israel. He was spotted by passersby walking up the subway steps, bleeding from his wrists.
The suspect fled the scene and no arrests have been made.
Detectives brought in K9s to search for evidence and pinpoint the location of the attack.
The investigation is ongoing. Due to the investigation, southbound No. 6 subways are bypassing Bleecker in both directions.
In January, a 71-year-old woman was slashed on a train as a suspect approached the Bleecker Street station. She sustained a non-life threatening injury.
An Orthodox Jewish man was slashed several times inside a Greenwich Village subway station early Friday, police said.
Cops found the bloodied 55-year-old victim, who only speaks Yiddish, inside the Bleeker Street station with slash wounds to his face, neck, arm and hands at around 3:15 a.m. after two people flagged down a police car on the street for help, cops said.
The man – who was wearing traditional Hasidic clothing – told police through an interpreter that he was sleeping on a bench on the southbound platform of the No. 6 train when he woke up and saw a black man holding a razor, cops said.
The attacker knifed the man during an attempted robbery and then fled, police said. The victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital where he was listed in stable condition.
Police recovered a bloodied handle from the knife on the platform. The suspect is still at large.
Friday’s attack was the latest in a wave of knife attacks in the city – an increase of 18 percent this year.
In January, a 71-year-old woman was slashed at the same station by a grinning stranger sitting across from her on a D train. She was left with a 4-inch gash on her cheek and needed 30 stitches.
The suspect, Damon Knowles, 21, told cops he attacked the grandmother because he felt threatened by her, according to court papers. He pleaded not guilty to assault.
In February, a 25-year-old Orthodox Jewish man was knifed while walking on Empire Boulevard in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. Keny Rochelin, 26, was charged with attempted murder as a hate crime.
Due to the police investigation Friday, the No. 4 and 6 trains were bypassing the station in both directions.
The B, D, F and M lines were unaffected.
