Two Israelis were arrested by Italian police for flying a drone over Vatican city, Italian media reported on Sunday.
Rome Police spotted the suspicious drone over the Tiber River and immediately began looking for the aircraft’s operators. Police located two Israelis, ordering them to land the drone and taking them into custody.
The drone was equipped with a high resolution camera which was confiscated by authorities, Italy’s Ansa News Agency reported.
Italian state police checked the background of the suspects, both 33 years old, with Interpol and Europol.
Israeli diplomatic authorities were informed that the two suspects had been arrested.
According to Ansa, the men will now be reported to the Judicial Authority for violating the Code of Navigation.
