NEW YORK — A man abandoned a 3-year-old girl at a Subway restaurant in Harlem on Saturday night, police said.
The man and the toddler entered the restaurant at 281 St. Nicholas Ave. around 11:30 p.m. The man bought the child a sandwich and then left, police said.
A good Samaritan at the restaurant then took her to a police station.
Police said the girl could tell them her name, Natalie, but not much else. She refers to the man who abandoned her as Daddy and Stanley.
“We tried to ask her her last night — she couldn’t come up with her last name,” Detective Vincent Signoretti told Stern. “And before the good Samaritan walked her over to the local precinct, they tried walking around the neighborhood, and she couldn’t figure out where she lived either.”
Police described the man being sought as as black, about 5 feet 5 inches tall and around 180 pounds.
He was wearing a red shirt and dark colored pants. He faces child abandonment charges.
Natalie, who was wearing a green dress with polka dots and blue pants, was transported to St. Luke’s Hospital, where she was treated, and then released into the custody of the Administration for Children’s Services.
Police are asking anyone with information about the girl or suspect to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-8477 or to submit a tip online at NYPDCrimeStoppers.com.
