As the 10th anniversary approaches of the founding of Israel Hayom, which has since the No. 1 daily newspaper in Israel, Editor-in-Chief Amos Regev, one of the core of founding staffers of the newspaper, has announced that he is stepping down.
The paper’s foreign correspondent for the past nine years, Boaz Bismuth, will succeed Regev as editor-in-chief.
“I thank Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson, and the entire Adelson family, for the opportunity I was given — that we All were — to launch a revolution in the Israeli media market,” Regev said.
“It’s been an amazing, challenging decade. My thanks to all members of staff, the administration, the printing press and distributors, with whom I had the privilege to work. I’m convinced that Boaz Bismuth will continue to lead the paper to new achievements and heights.”
Regev, 66, will be given the title “founding editor” and will continue to write for the paper.
Bismuth, 52, who holds an M.A. in African Studies from the Sorbonne and is a graduate of the Center for Diplomatic and Strategic Studies in Paris, was formerly Israel’s ambassador to Mauretania.
“For me, as a member of the print press, this is a dream come true: to be the editor of a newspaper, and what’s more, the No. 1 newspaper in the country,” Bismuth said.
“It’s an enormous challenge and satisfaction. I thank the owners of the newspaper and the editor-in-chief for their great faith and hope to continue serving the readership while respecting Israeli values.”
Dr. Miriam and Sheldon Adelson published an open letter to Regev in Sunday’s edition of Israel Hayom in which they expressed warm appreciation for his “wonderful work” as editor of the paper.
