At least four people were killed on Friday when a truck ploughed into crowds in a shopping area in central Stockholm, Sweden.
“There are deaths, and many injured,” Nina Odermalm Schei, a spokeswoman for Swedish intelligence agency Sapo, told AFP, without giving a precise figure.
Armed police rushed to the scene but the driver of the vehicle fled, and a manhunt is underway.
A different person, who matched the description of a suspect, was arrested after police released a grainy image caught on CCTV, reported the BBC.
All trains in and out of Stockholm have been cancelled for the rest of the day, while the Oresund bridge between Sweden and Denmark has been partially closed to limit traffic, according to the Independent.
Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven described the incident as a “terror attack”.
“Sweden has been attacked. Everything points to a terror attack,” he said.
Lofven said the government was doing everything possible to help the security services. “We are thinking about the victims — their families and friends — and those who were injured,” he said, according to CNN.
