CLEVELAND, Ohio – A woman checking out a rental home on Cleveland’s East Side arrived at the property Sunday to find a man on the ground with a gunshot wound to his face, police say.
The victim, a 30-year-old Israeli citizen, suffered gunshot wounds to his mouth and leg, according to Cleveland police Detective Reginald Lanton. He was treated at University Hospitals, where he remains in the intensive care unit, a police report says.
The 60-year-old woman called police about 6:15 p.m. after she found the man in the driveway of a home on East 142nd Street, about two blocks north of Kinsman Road in the city’s Mt. Pleasant neighborhood, the report says.
She got the keys to the home from its owner, and went over to check out the property she was interested in renting, the report says.
The woman found the man lying in a large pool of blood. Police officers believed he was unconscious and not breathing when they arrived, but the man eventually moved his arm and looked around, the report says.
The victim could not speak to police due to his injuries, but he used his hand to signal that he had been shot, the report says.
A witness told police that he saw a suspicious man walking down the street right before he heard gunfire.
Police have not announced any arrests or charges in the case.
Officers found a spent bullet, a bicycle, and a bloody bookbag containing a laptop and personal items at the scene, the report says.
Cleveland police informed the Israel embassy of the incident because the victim is an Israeli citizen, Lanton said.
