ACTRESS Eliza Dushku has opened up about struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.
“Something a lot of people don’t know about me is that I’m an alcoholic and I was a drug addict for a lot of years,” the actress said during a speech at this week’s New Hampshire Youth Summit on Opioid Awareness.
The 36-year-old told the crowd that she is now sober. “I’m always going to be that, but the difference between me and an alcoholic or an addict that still drinks and does drugs is that I’m sober. I don’t drink and I don’t do drugs anymore.”
Dushku said she loved the first time she tried a drug — marijuana at the age of 14 because of the way it made her feel.
“It was fun and I loved it until it wasn’t,” she said. “Drugs didn’t love me.
They didn’t love my family.
They definitely didn’t love my friends that died.”
Dushku became a rising star in Hollywood at the age of 20 when she co-starred alongside Kirsten Dunst in the 2000 hit teen flick Bring It On.
Since then, she starred in her own TV series Tru Calling and most recently the 2016 TV movie The Saint.
