It’s difficult enough to deal with the pressures of being a teenager in today’s world, but when you start adding the supply of prescription drugs made easily available within our Yeshiva’s and school systems, then we need to open our eyes to new ways of protecting our children from harm’s way.
Knowledge is power and parents across the US need to educate their children before they fall victim to this growing epidemic.
Many teens are under the misconception that prescription drugs are much safer than street drugs such as heroin and cocaine.
This is not true.
Truth is, “Prescription painkillers, such as OxyContin and Vicodin, were responsible for more than half of all drug overdose deaths in 2013, accounting for 22,700 fatalities, according to the trust’s new Reducing Teen Substance Misuse: What Really Works report.”
Since 2013, reports show these numbers have only continued to double and triple in size. Makes you wonder, “Where are these pills coming from?”
I cannot speak for other areas of the US but have gained knowledge in the Brooklyn, Monsey, KJ,Lakewood Jewish communities that are well known for being Ultra-Orthodox communities who are struggling with highest rates of prescription abuse.
The knowledge of a pill collection scheme was presented to Rabbi’s and Synagogue Boards in 2015 by Tot Private Consulting.
Unfortunately, no response and no action plans to prevent this crime from occurring inside their synagogues and communities has been done.
As a result of religious leaders turning their back to this knowledge has resulted in more deaths among our youth.
We live in a world where prescription painkillers are extremely easy to get access to.
It can be after a person surgery or elders in their community to provide financial kickbacks so they can continue to buy their medical prescriptions.
Both ends’ benefits from a very lucrative illegal business deal.
In Rockland County, NY. Alone, it has been said that over 400 clients are involved in the illegal prescription drug scheme.
To convert how many pills are being distributed annually within this community amounts to over 114,000 pills.
If the average pill is being sold for $25 dollars, this amounts to a 3.6 million dollar operation. So make your own calculation how much more money is taken part in this drug operation.
No wonder why so many wish to remain silent!
Depending on the supply and demand, drugs such as Vicodin, Lortab, OxyContin, and Percocet can be sold to teenagers for a price ranging from $25-$32 dollars a pill.
When teenagers begin a lifestyle of mixing illegal prescription drugs with drinking and nights of partying, families are being destroyed by addiction and even loss of their child.
When money is being generated at pace like this, the chances of this illegal drug prescription organization caring and having empathy about our teenagers dying and being addicted diminishes to nothing. That’s quite obvious by the statistics provided here.
Yes, it is illegal to use prescription drugs without a valid prescription and distribute them.
TOT Private Consulting is aware that this growing epidemic requires crisis management procedures both in catching the criminals and in helping the victims.
We will continue to raise awareness!
