Counterintelligence agents have been probing President Trump’s national security adviser Michael Flynn over communications with Russian officials, a report says.
While it isn’t clear when the inquiry began, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that Flynn’s ties to Russia had been investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Central Intelligence Agency, National Security Agency and Treasury Department.
A source familiar with the matter told the newspaper that agents were ultimately trying to determine the nature of the conversations between Flynn a retired US Army general and former director of the Defense Intelligence Agency — and the Russians, and whether they may have violated any laws.
It’s unclear if the probe produced any evidence of such wrongdoing, or even if it’s ended or still continuing.
In response, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told the WSJ: “We have absolutely no knowledge of any investigation or even a basis for such an investigation.
