“NCIS: Los Angeles” actor Miguel Ferrer died Thursday after a battle with cancer.
He was 61.
Ferrer was best known for his role as Owen Granger for seven seasons on the long-running cop show.
“Today, ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ lost a beloved family member,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill said in a statement.
“Miguel was a man of tremendous talent who had a powerful dramatic presence on screen, a wicked sense of humor, and a huge heart. Our thoughts go out to his wife Lori, his sons, and his entire family. He will be greatly missed.”
Ferrer also played Dr. Garret Macy on “Crossing Jordan” and FBI Agent Albert Rosenfield on “Twin Peaks,” a role he was reprising for the revival airing later this year.
On the big screen, he played Bob Morton, who devised the idea of robotic police officers, in “RoboCop.”
“Today history will mark giant changes in our world, and lost to most will be that on the same day Miguel Ferrer lost his battle to throat cancer.
But not lost to his family,” George Clooney, the actor’s cousin, said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. “Miguel made the world brighter and funnier and his passing is felt so deeply in our family that events of the day, (monumental events), pale in comparison. We love you Miguel. We always will.”
“A death in the family: just learned we lost Miguel Ferrer today. Join me pls in sending sympathy to his wife and family,” said “Twin Peaks” co-creator Mark Frost. “We go back to 1974. Broke in on the same show. Great talent, better man. Working & writing for him a highlight in every part of my life. Too soon, too soon, too soon.”
“Could not have been nicer working with him a few months ago on ‘NCIS: LA,’ ” tweeted actor Curt Mega. “Incredible range of work. Gone too soon.”
“Such a sad day. My heart goes out to his family and our friends at ‘NCIS LA,'” wrote “NCIS” actor Brian Dietzen. “A wonderful man.”
“Miguel was a wonderful actor and a sweetheart. Too soon,” tweeted Dana Delaney.
“So sad about the passing of Miguel Ferrer,” wrote “NCIS” director Dennis Smith. “He was a gentle, kind man with an illuminating warmth!”
“A lovely guy and a terrific actor,” tweeted Eric McCormack. “Gone much too soon.”
