An off-duty police officer committed suicide Tuesday morning at his Staten Island home, police sources said.
Police responded to a 911 call of a shooting at a home on Dorval Avenue near Annadale Road and found the man with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the neck at around 5 a.m.
He was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital South, where he was pronounced dead, officials said.
A family member identified the deceased officer as Yong Yun, a 10-year NYPD veteran who worked in Staten Island’s 120th Precinct.
Yun and his partner Daniel DiFalco were named cops of the month in September 2014 by the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce.
Earlier this month, the two cops were praised in a tweet from the 120th Precinct for getting a gun off the streets.
“Gr8 work by #120pct PO Yun & PO Difalco braving the elements & retrieving this illegal firearm which was tossed from window,” the tweet read, along with the hashtag #onelessgun.
The incident is still under investigation.
