A drive-by shooter executed a rookie city Correction Department officer as she sat in a car in Brooklyn on Sunday night, police said.
The shooter pulled up to 25-year-old Alastasia Bryan’s gray sedan on E. 73rd St,. and Avenue L near the Paerdegat Basin in Bergen Beach and opened fire around 9:15 p.m., cop sources said.
The deadly barrage punched a C-shaped pattern of five bullet holes through Bryan’s driver’s side window, striking her in the head and chest.
She died on the scene nearly 4 miles away from her East New York home.
Bryan worked at the Anna M. Kross Center on Rikers Island, Correction Department sources said, and had recently graduated from the city Correction Academy.
“My daughter doesn’t do anything except comes and goes from work. Work was all she cared about,” Bryan’s mother, Ingrid Bryan, told TOT News on Sunday night.
She stood, distraught, alongside about 50 others at the crime scene, many of them family members who live nearby.
“I’m so sad and upset right now. I’m grieving,” Ingrid Bryan said.
Several of the onlookers wept as they consoled each other, and one woman was so overcome with emotion that someone had to bring out a wooden chair so she could sit down.
Police were looking for a gray or beige Honda Civic that sped west on E. 73rd St., sources said.
“Tonight our correction family and the entire city of New York is shocked and grieving the horrific murder of one of the youngest members of New York City’s Boldest, who was shot and killed by an unknown assailant while sitting in her car in Brooklyn,” said Correction Officers’ Benevolent Association President Elias Husamudeen. “There are no words that can express the depth of this tragedy.”
He added that the union “will do everything we can to support the officer’s family during this time, and we will not rest until the assailant or assailants are brought to justice.”
Police are reviewing security camera footage of the area.
Last week, a pair of armed men critically wounded state Corrections Department Officer Henry Wright during a home invasion in Queens.
Detectives are probing whether he was targeted by former prisoners.
