An NYPD sergeant was fatally shot in the head and another sergeant wounded while responding to a home-invasion call in The Bronx on Friday afternoon, law-enforcement sources said.
The officers got into a gunfight with the perp, Manuel Rosales, 35, of Brentwood, LI, who was shot dead in the confrontation, sources said.
The other officer was shot multiple times in the leg.
The shootout took place after cops pulled over the suspect’s car near 1460 Beach Ave. in a residential neighborhood in the Van Nest section, law-enforcement sources said.
They chased the perp several blocks to 1575 Noble Ave., next to the Noble Playground, where they exchanged fire.
Sources said Rosales knew the woman who lived at the home he broke into. Contacted at her home, the shaken woman declined comment.
“I can’t talk,” she told The Post.
Both officers were rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where the blood bank was notified that they could need transfusions.
The sergeant who died was a father of two, sources said.
Mayor de Blasio arrived at the hospital shortly before 4 p.m. NYPD Commissioner James O’Neill was on his way.
The bureau chief of the Bronx DA’s office Public Integrity Unit, Wanda Perez-Maldonado, and her deputy, Omer Wiczyk, rushed to the hospital, also.
