An American Airlines jetliner was seen spewing heavy black smoke as it burned at O’Hare International Airport in Chicago after it blew a tire during takeoff, according to reports.
The pilots of Miami-bound Flight 383, a Boeing 767, aborted their takeoff when the plane blew a tire at 2:35 p.m. Friday, NBC Chicago reported.

Passengers evacuated via a chute when the plane also experienced an engine malfunction, the company said.
There were 161 passengers and nine crew members on the plane. No injuries were immediately reported.
Several passengers tweeted photos of the plane and the billowing acrid smoke.

The FAA reported that a runway was closed due to a “disabled aircraft,” the station reported.
The plane, which was manufactured in 2003, has a capacity for 218 passengers and crew, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.
