Kim Kardashian has settled her libel lawsuit against a gossip website that claimed she faked her horrifying Paris robbery at gunpoint.
Kardashian filed suit against MediaTakeOut.com earlier this month, charging the website “claimed, without any factual support whatsoever, that Kardashian faked the robbery, lied about the violent assault, and then filed a fraudulent claim with her insurance company to bilk her carrier out of millions of dollars.”
Kardashian, 35, said five men tied her hands and legs, and duct-taped her mouth, while holding her at gun point — before taking off with millions in jewelry, court filings say.
Several MediaTakeOut.com articles, however, said the heist was a hoax.
MediaTakeOut issued an apology on Monday, saying the site “regrettably published a series of false stories about Kim Kardashian West suggesting she faked the robbery in Paris, lied to authorities and then filed a $5.6 million fraudulent insurance claim for her stolen jewelry.”
“MediaTakeOut knows that Mrs. Kardashian West was in fact robbed in Paris. We have permanently removed from our website any and all posts that suggested she staged the robbery, lied about it to the French police and committed an insurance crime,” the statement also said.
“We sincerely apologize to Mrs. Kardashian West and her family for the false stories we published and regret suggesting that what happened to her in Paris was anything less than horrific.”
MediaTakeOut also said, “We are pleased that this matter has been resolved to satisfaction of all the parties.”
Kardashian’s lawyer issued a similar statement, saying in an email that “The matter has been resolved to the parties’ mutual satisfaction.”
