A free-spirited Mexican model last seen leaving her Brooklyn apartment has been missing for almost a week, desperate family members said.
Geraldine Mendez, 20, never returned to her Lefferts Gardens apartment after going for a walk in Prospect Park around 5 p.m. last Saturday, mother Julieta Martinez said.
“We ask, with broken hearts, if anyone knows anything about her that they help us find her,” Martinez wrote in a Facebook post Thursday.
Mendez first arrived to the city to appear in some fashion shows in August, her mother said.
The young model’s Facebook page features numerous videos and photos of her exploring New York City and the world.
A friend described Mendez as creative and social.
“Geraldine is what I call a happy hippie,” Kris Kemp told NBC 4. “She’s creative like most of the people here, so she was just kind of hanging out with different people here.”
Mendez’ father traveled to the city Friday to file a missing person report. Police did not have any information on the case as of early Saturday.
A 20-year-old woman in Brooklyn who hadn’t been seen in over a week has been found and re-united with her family, police say.
Geraldine Mendez Victoria was last seen at a party on Eldridge Street in Brooklyn late Saturday night.
The NYPD says she has been taken to a hospital for evaluacion.
Her father flew in from Mexico City to look for her, with the help of the Mexican Consulate and the NYPD.
“As soon as we found out that this lady Geraldine was missing, we established contact with the family and have provided them advice, and we contacted the police,” said Carlos Izzo, Mexican Consulate.
Geraldine came to the US six months ago after college to pursue a career in modeling.
