Tobey Maguire and Jennifer Meyer have announced that they are breaking up after nine years of marriage, his rep told E! News Tuesday.
“After much soul searching and consideration we have made the decision to separate as a couple,” Tobey and Jennifer said in a joint statement Tuesday. “As devoted parents, our first priority remains raising our children together with enduring love, respect and friendship.”
The exes met in 2003 and are parents to daughter Ruby Maguire, 9, and son Otis Maguire, 7.
The “Spiderman” star, 41, and Meyer, a jewelry designer, 39, are based in California.
The couple have maintained a low profile throughout their marriage. But in May 2007, Maguire opened up about his family, five months after the birth of his daughter.
“It’s a very dramatic change,” he said. “My whole life is in transition now with friendships and where I’m gonna live, you know? Just your whole perspective.”
At the time, Tobey also revealed that he planned to tie the knot with Meyer in a small ceremony later that year.
“I’m very excited to marry Jen,” he told David Letterman on The Late Show. The former exchange vows that September in a sunset ceremony Kona, Hawaii, in front of a small group of family and friends, including Tobey’s best friend Leonardo DiCaprio.
