Brad Pitt is being investigated by police over allegations of child abuse, shock US reports claim.
According to US website TMZ, the Hollywood actor is facing a probe by the Los Angeles Police Department and LA County Department of Children and Family Services over allegations he was physically and verbally abusive to his children.
The site alleges Brad, 52, was on a flight last Wednesday when he became drunk and “went wild, screaming and getting physical with the kids”.
On Monday his wife Angelina Jolie filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences and asking for sole physical custody of their six children.
Sources close to the star told the site the actor did not commit any abuse and is taking the matter “very seriously”.
The site claims Brad, Angelina and their kids landed at an airport at around 8pm, with unnamed witnesses claiming the World War Z actor continued ranting on the tarmac and tried to leave in one of the fuel trucks.
Sources alleged the incident was reported to the LA County Department of Children and Family Services and both Brad and Angelina have been interviewed as part on an ongoing routine investigation into the reports.
It has been claimed the alleged incident is what led to Angelina’s divorce petition.
A source close to Fight Club actor Brad reportedly told the site: “He takes the matter very seriously and says he did not commit any abuse of his children.
“It’s unfortunate that people involved are continuing to present him in the worst possible light.”
In a statement, Angelina said the decision to file for divorce had been made for the ‘health of the family’.
Angelina’s manager said: “Angelina is doing what’s best in the interest of taking care of her children. She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
And entertainment attorney Robert Offer added: “Angelina has filed for dissolution of the marriage. This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
Brad said in a statement following the divorce: “I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the wellbeing of our kids.”
