French prosecutors filed charges on Saturday against a Muslim man who admitted to stabbing a member of the Chabad Hassidic movement on Friday, accusing the assailant of attempted murder.
The attack, which took place in the city of Strasbourg, left the victim, Shalom Levy, in light-to-moderate condition.
Levy’s attacker, who screamed “Allahu Akbar” during the assault, admitted to investigators that he attacked Levy because of his Jewish attire. He reportedly used a 4 inch (10 centimeter) kitchen knife to stab Levy.
French police have yet to classify the attack as an act of terror or anti-Semitism.
