A Washington, D.C. metro transit authority police officer was charged on Wednesday with trying to provide material support to ISIS — the first time a law enforcement officer has been charged with an ISIS-related crime.
Nicholas Young, who has served with the department since 2003, was arrested Wednesday morning by FBI agents. He is alleged to have tried sending money to ISIS via mobile-based gift cards using a messaging service.
An alleged transaction redeemed by the FBI in July was for $245.
Young is set to appear in court Wednesday at 2 p.m.
