NYPD cops shot a suspect and an innocent female bystander in the head during a possible robbery at an off-duty officer’s house in Queens on Monday afternoon, police sources and witnesses said.
The gunfire erupted at 55-38 66th St. in Maspeth, sources said.
At the scene, a man who was leaving the brick, two-family home with a young child said he was an off-duty NYPD officer.
“Somebody was trying to break into our house,” he said, referring further questions to the NYPD.
Sources said officers spotted a man fleeing the residence and darting up Hull Avenue when they arrived. They quickly took off after him before eventually shooting the suspect in the groin, a source said.
The woman, who was standing nearby, was shot in the head during the mayhem, the source said.
Both were transported to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition but are expected to survive.
No officers were injured.
