George Zimmerman is auctioning off the firearm he used to kill unarmed teen Trayvon Martin in Florida in 2012.
The former neighborhood watchman posted the weapon on the auction site gunbroker.com and told an Orlando news station that the Justice Department returned it to him and he was allowed to make some cash off it.
“I’m a free American,” Zimmerman told WOFL/Fox 35. “I can do what I like with my possessions.”
The bidding commences Thursday at 11 a.m. and the bidding starts at $5,000.
Zimmerman said the Smithsonian Institution was interested along with others who wanted to use the gun “in a fashion I did not feel comfortable with.
“The firearm for sale is the firearm that was used to defend my life and end the brutal attack from Trayvon Martin on 2/26/2012,” he wrote on the auction site.
Zimmerman claims he will use the proceeds from the sale to “ensure the demise” of Hillary Clinton.
