RIVERSIDE, Calif. – A former FBI agent in Southern California has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $136,000 in suspected drug money that was seized during searches.
Scott Bowman of Moreno Valley entered pleas Monday to federal charges.
Authorities say Bowman was part of a San Bernardino-based task force on gang-related crime in 2014 when he stole the money.
Prosecutors say he went on a three-week spending binge — buying cars, paying for his wife’s plastic surgery and taking his girlfriend to Las Vegas.
Bowman acknowledged that he tried to cover his tracks by falsifying FBI records and trying to get a police detective to lie for him.
His arrest caused authorities to drop charges against 14 people in a drug case Bowman had investigated.
He was fired last year.
