A massive 4-alarm fire has engulfed a Serbian Orthodox church in Manhattan hours after their Easter service, authorities said.
The blaze broke out in Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava at 20 W 26th St at around 6:49 p.m, according to FDNY officials.
A force of 170 firefighters were responding to the fire, which was still burning as of 8 p.m. The FDNY said there were no initial reports injuries.
Photos on Twitter showed flames shooting out the windows of the church as clouds of smoke billowed out the side.
Parishioners could be seen packed inside hours earlier, according to pictures posted to Facebook.
The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava, was built in 1846 as an Episcopal church called Trinity Chapel. It has been Serbian Orthodox since the 1940s, according to the church’s website.
