Toms River, NJ – An Orthodox Jewish woman from Toms River is dead following a horrific collision this morning on a local roadway that left the front end of her minivan a mangled mass of twisted metal.
Toms River Police are reporting that the 28 year old woman was heading south on New Hampshire Avenue at 11:15 AM when her vehicle crossed over the oncoming lanes of traffic for unknown reasons near North Maple Avenue.
The vehicle jumped the curb and collided with several trees before overturning and coming to rest in a water retention basin.
An infant in the car, who was secured in a child safety seat, was rescued by first responders who had to crawl inside the overturned vehicle.
The child was taken to a local hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
The name of the deceased is being withheld for publication until next of kin have been notified.
Among those who responded to the accident were Pleasant Plains and Silverton Fire companies, Silverton First Aid Squad, Toms River Police, and Lakewood Hatzolah.
Detectives from both the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ocean county Sheriff’s Department CSI division are investigating the accident.
