KALAMAZOO COUNTY, Mich. — Kalamazoo Police Chief Jeff Hadley says that a suspect is in custody after seven people were killed in shootings in Kalamazoo County.
Five of the victims were shot in the parking lot of the Cracker Barrel restaurant in Texas Township. One of those victims, a 14-year-old girl, was initially taken to the hospital with critical injuries and was later pronounced dead.
The other two victims, a father and son, were killed at Seelye KIA on Stadium Drive, according to Kalamazoo County Undersheriff Paul Matyas.
Two other people were injured in the shootings.
Michigan State Police Lt. Dale Hinz called the shootings at three separate locations “incomprehensible.”
The first shooting happened at about about 6 p.m. at Meadows Townhomes. A woman was shot and and injured in what police say was a drive-by shooting.
The next shooting occurred more than four hours later at about 10:15 p.m. at Seelye KIA. The Cracker Barrel shooting happened at about 10:30 p.m.
Police say the suspect was arrested at about 12:40 a.m. at Ransom and Porter streets in Kalamazoo. According to Michigan State Police, the suspect is a 45-year-old white man from Kalamazoo. Police said weapons were found in his vehicle.
“These are random murders,” Matyas said. “This is your worst case scenario.”
