Woodmere, NY – Police on Tuesday arrested a man who they say tried to steal a baby from a nanny as she pushed the child in a stroller in Woodmere.
Police say the man tried to take a baby from a nanny, followed her back to a Long Island home, and left with an empty stroller.
Authorities say a 65-year-old nanny was walking a 20-month-old baby in a stroller in Woodmere Monday when the man told her she was “pushing a dead baby.” He then insisted he needed to take the baby.
The woman tried to get away but police say he followed her and entered the home through an unlocked mudroom. The nanny then locked the kitchen door.
Police say he left with the empty stroller, which was later found at a pizza shop in Hewlett.
Investigators on Monday released footage from the pizza shop for help identifying the suspect.
