A 20-year-old man was arrested Sunday on charges accusing him of firing a gunshot that struck and killed a young girl inside her Long Island home nearly three months ago.
Jakwan Keller, of Hempstead, was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree criminal use of a firearm and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Nassau County police said.
Keller is accused of firing the shot that struck 12-year-old Dejah Joyner in the head while she was in the living room of her Hempstead home. Joyner died on Oct. 17, a day after the shooting, at Winthrop University Hospital in Mineola.
No details were available as to what led investigators to Keller.
He pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Monday and was ordered held without bail as supporters yelled, “We love you!” to him in court.
Information on an attorney for him wasn’t immediately available.
