A police dash-cam video captured two New Jersey state troopers deliver a baby girl in the back seat of a car along the Garden State Parkway this week.
Authorities said that at around 4:15 a.m. on Monday, the mother-to-be was being driven to the hospital by her husband when couple suddenly realized they wouldn’t make it.
The couple stopped on the right shoulder of the highway in Hillside Township and called 911.
That’s when Troopers Alex Muro and Arnaldo Mateo arrived on scene and found the expecting mom already in labor in the back seat of the car.
One of the troopers can be heard on the dash-cam video, saying “one, two, three push!…There you go, keep going!”
The troopers can be heard cheering in the video, “it’s a girl!” after the baby is delivered.
By 4:26 a.m., Trooper Mateo was cradling the newborn girl, cops said.
The troopers helped with cutting the baby’s umbilical cord before handing the infant over to her mom, authorities said.
“We walk through these doors every day and we don’t know what to expect, but I definitely didn’t expect to be delivering a baby,” Muro told NBC.
Mateo added, “It was just one of those moments where we had to respond and we did our job.”
The mother and the baby were both taken to the hospital where they were reported to be doing well.
The NJSP jokingly added in their statement “These recent newborns should form a club when they’re older”…
Little do they know that they are part of a club already….
