A young woman whose body was found along Route 4 near the Nitzanim junction over the weekend may not have been the victim of a hit-and-run as first thought, police said.
According to the Lachish District police, the findings from the scene indicate that Bahia Mana’a, 22 of Be’er Sheva, may have died of other causes.
The woman’s body was found at 3 A.M. Saturday. A Magen David Adom team that was summoned declared her dead, and police believed she’d been killed by a passing car.
A few hours later an Ashkelon man, who was drunk and driving a car whose front was damaged, was arrested on suspicion he’d caused the accident. He was released, however, when it was determined that he was not involved and that the damage to his car was from a crash that didn’t involve anyone else.
Police note that no one saw a car hit the woman in real time, and the injuries to her body were not unequivocal. The body was sent to the Abu Kabir Institute of Forensic Medicine in Tel Aviv for an autopsy.
