The man who shot a firefighter on Staten Island this morning and who remains barricaded in a house there has been identified as Garland Tyree, 48, according to police.
The suspect has fired shots at police officers on the scene.
On his Facebook page, Tyree posted this message a few hours ago: “Today I die.”
Family and friends of Tyree have been pleading with him to come out with his hands up.
Earlier this morning, the suspect was being issued an arrest warrant by U.S. Marshals when he set the house on fire, according to police.
It is not clear why he was being arrested.
Firefighters responded to 15 Destiny Court in Mariners Harbor at about 6 a.m. when the man shot a firefighter in the lower leg, according to police.
The firefighter is reportedly hospitalized in stable condition.
The fire appears to be out.
