Gaza – In its latest propaganda video released to mark the one-year anniversary of last summer’s Operation Protective Edge, Hamas posted a clip Sunday that allegedly shows footage of the group surveilling then-IDF chief of staff Lt.-Gen. (res) Benny Gantz from short range.
The clip filmed from inside the Gaza border allegedly shows Hamas operatives observing Gantz during a visit to IDF troops near the Gaza border staging area during the 50-day conflict.
Among the claims made by Hamas in the clip is that Gantz was in firing range of Hamas weaponry.
The group presented the unverified video as proof of its intelligence gathering prowess and its preparedness for “any possible aggression.”
The release of the clip comes on the heels of another Hamas propaganda video that purports to show a terror cell that infiltrated into Israel territory from Gaza and attacked an IDF patrol during Operation Protective Edge.
In the Hamas raid allegedly depicted in the video, two soldiers were killed and two were wounded in a firefight with a Hamas squad that infiltrated Israel in the Eshkol region via a tunnel from the central Gaza Strip.
The squad of nine terrorists was headed toward an Israeli community when it encountered an IDF patrol.
An exchange of fire ensued and one Gazan was shot dead, while a senior officer was wounded. The other terrorists fled back into the Strip through the tunnel.
The terrorists were dressed in IDF uniforms and were armed with automatic weapons, rocket-propelled grenades, syringes, sedatives and handcuffs – the latter apparently to be used in taking hostages.
The soldiers killed by a rocket-propelled grenade while thwarting the attempt to murder Israeli civilians were Sgt. Adar Barsano, 20, of Nahariya, and Maj. Amotz Greenberg, 45, of Hod Hasharon.
