CLEVELAND – Carmine Agnello, the ex-husband of mobster John Gotti’s daughter, was arrested in Cleveland Wednesday.
According to the Post , Cleveland police took Agnello—an alleged member of New York City’s Gambino Organized Crime family—into custody in connection with “a probe into stolen cars and car parts.”
In 1984, John Gotti’s daughter, Victoria, married Agnello in New York City. About 1,500 people attended the wedding, many of them involved in the mob, according to ABC News.
Gotti told ABC News she originally saw her wedding as a way to break free from her father but later realized she didn’t know her husband very well.
Gotti, and her three sons with Agnello, were featured in the A&E reality TV series “Growing Up Gotti.” She also wrote a book about her family life, called “The Family of Mine.”
Her father, John Gotti, also known as “Teflon Don,” was convicted on 13 counts, including ordering the murders of two men, in 1992. He died in prison 10 years later.
In 2000, Agnello was arrested by New York City police on charges of operating a racketeering enterprise that dominated the scrap metal industry in Willets Point, Queens. Police said he used extortion, arson and threats directed at a rival scrapyard company.
According to the indictment, Agnello directed the fire bombing of Stadium Scrap’s office trailer and flat bed truck. He was sentenced to nine years in prison and forced to pay nearly $10 million in restitution for those offenses but was released Jan. 16, 2008.
According to the Federal Bureau of Prisons, Agnello served time at FCI Elkton in Lisbon, Ohio and then was transferred to FCI Allenwood in White Deer, Penn.
Agnello briefly made Cleveland headlines in 2011 for reportedly threatening an Ohio park ranger.
Cleveland police announced Wednesday that they are holding a press conference at 1 p.m. regarding a long-term investigation into organized crime. Authorities will not confirm if that is related to the Agnello case.
