A towering buff male manager at a Manhattan Panera Bread was captured on video posted to YouTube Wednesday walloping a woman employee in the face, knocking her to the ground inside the chain store.
The 40-second video, shot at 12:30 p.m. inside the franchise at 304 Park Avenue South, shows the employee yelling at the white-shirted manager just before he whacks her twice – the second time causing her to hit a wall and fall to the ground.
“You put your hands on me, you put your hands on me,” the woman can be heard yelling in the video.
The woman was quitting her job in the middle of her shift before the chaos broke out, according to YouTube user named Midgarrr who posted the shocking footage.
The manager “basically threw her out the door” after she “threw some bag of chips on the floor,” wrote Midgarrr on YouTube. “She came back, and then….this.”
“[The manager] legit threw her down a flight of stairs and out the front door for really no reason, she runs around to the other entrance to retaliate and that’s where the video starts.
You might wanna say she hit him first, but really he had FULL CONTROL over her the entire time,” a witness told Gawker, which first reported the story.
Police sources said that the woman provoked the hulking manager, causing him to throw a “defensive swing.”
After she was kicked out of the store, the woman came back in and started “throwing things around and swinging on him,” the source said. Neither employee was charged.
A spokeswoman for Panera Bread confirmed the Wednesday attack and said that the two employees have been fired.
“We have a zero tolerance policy for violence and worked swiftly with authorities to investigate,” said spokeswoman Amanda Cardosi in a statement.
“The associates who were determined to be involved no longer work for Panera. The health and safety of our associates and guests will always be out top priority.”
A manager at the Midtown chain store refused to comment.
