Not only were people scratching their heads over Ariana Grande’s doughnut-spitting/licking incident at a California shop, but the pop star has also been under fire for comments she made while at the store.
Security camera video, obtained by CBS2 in Los Angeles, shows what appears to be Grande spitting on and licking doughnuts sitting atop a glass case on Saturday at Wolfee Donut Shop in Lake Elsinore, California. She and a friend seem to be taking turns spitting on the baked goods when they apparently thought no one was looking.

The shop’s video also captured comments Grande made when an employee brought out a tray of oversized doughnuts. The Florida native can be heard saying, “What the f**k is that? I hate Americans. I hate America.”
Now Grande, 22, is trying to clear up her comments about America, releasing a statement Wednesday (obtained by CBS News) that says:
“I am EXTREMELY proud to be an American and I’ve always made it clear that I love my county. What I said in a private moment with my friend, who was buying the donuts, was taken out of context and I am sorry for not using more discretion with my choice of words. As an advocate for healthy eating, food is very important to me and I sometimes get upset by how freely we as Americans eat and consume things without giving any thought to the consequences that it has on our health and society as a whole. The fact that the United States has the highest child obesity rate in the world frustrates me. We need to do more to educate ourselves and our children about the dangers of overeating and the poison that we put into our bodies. We need to demand more from our food industry. However I should have known better in how I expressed myself; and with my new responsibility to others as a public figure I will strive to be better.”
Needless to say, Grande won’t be performing at the MLB All-Star Concert on Saturday at the Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati. Grande said she had to pull out of the event because she had some of her wisdom teeth removed Monday. Demi Lovato will perform at the MLB All-Star Concert instead.
“As for why I cannot be at the MLB show, I have had emergency oral surgery and due to recovery I cannot attend the show. I hope to make it up to all those fans soon. That being said let me once again apologize if I have offended anyone with my poor choice of words,” said Grande.
No mention of the doughnuts.
