A manhunt is underway for the suspect who shot an Oologah, Oklahoma, police officer in the head on late Thursday.
The officer, later identified as Charles Neil, was shot as he pursued a Chevrolet Tahoe occupied by three suspects. His patrol car flipped and crashed upside down in a ditch on the side of U.S. 169, according to the Tulsa World.
Neil was transported by medical helicopter to St. John Medical Center for treatment, Fox 23 reports. He was alert and talking as he was loaded into the transport.
Meanwhile, officials caught up to the Tahoe in South Coffeyville, where they used stop sticks to blow out the car’s tires. The vehicle continued for another mile before stopping. Two suspects were taken into custody there, but one managed to escape.
That individual shot another driver, stealing his car to get away. He later crashed the vehicle and ran off on foot, Tulsa World reports. The injured motorist was identified as an elderly male who is expected to make a full recovery.
Police are still looking for that suspect, who is described as a Hispanic male around 30 years old, according to Fox 23. He was last seen wearing a white polo shirt, blue skinny jeans, tennis shoes and gold chains. He may have fled north of the border into Kansas, authorities say.
Inside the Tahoe, authorities found an AR-15 and body armor.
