RAMAPO – One person was hospitalized Sunday after a two-vehicle crash involving an ambulance.
An EMStar Ambulance was driving southbound on College Road at about 12:55 p.m. when it collided with a minivan heading east on West Carlton, according to Ramapo police. The ambulance flipped, landing on its side in a spray of broken glass and trapping the driver.
Police said the driver, identified by EMStar as David Weismandl, was pulled from the vehicle by Monsey firefighters and Rockland Paramedics. Weismandl was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla after complaining of chest pains.
In a statement, EMStar CEO Joseph Zupnik expressed thanks that Weismandl was not more seriously injured and said the ambulance was not transporting any patients at the time of the crash.
The two occupants of the minivan were taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern for observation, according to police.
The intersection was closed until 2:18 p.m. and the crash remains under investigation.
