Queens, NY – Far Rockaway and Bayswater residents are on edge after a man ordered an 11 year old boy into his car yesterday afternoon.
Police told TOT News that the attempted kidnapping took place yesterday at approximately 2:10 PM.
The boy was walking on Mott Avenue near Bay 24th Street when an unknown black man in his late 20’s driving a black two door car with tinted windows stopped his vehicle in the middle of the road.
The man got out of his car and reportedly yelled “get in the car” at the youngster, who fled the scene.
According to Elkana Edelman, vice president of the Rockaway Nassau Safety Patrol, the boy ran to the home of people he knew on nearby Samantha Drive.
A member of the RNSP who was a guest at the home put a call out on his handheld radio and the patrol’s dispatcher contacted 911 immediately.
Edelman said that RNSP’s activated its video surveillance team for the first time ever on Shabbos.
“We accessed a private house’s video camera on Mott Avenue, just two doors down from where the incident happened,” Edelman told TOT News. “The child was able to identify the vehicle that we caught on camera as the one that stopped him and we gave that information to detectives.”
According to Edelman, a second incident was reported to the RNSP approximately two hours after the first abduction attempt at Mott and Sunnyside Avenues.
“It was one block away and a 14 year old girl described the same car and a man who said to her, ‘Get in the f-ing car,’” said Edelman.
Edelman said that the citizen’s patrol put the girl in touch with detectives who were working the original case but police said that only one attempted abduction was reported in the area yesterday.
Police continue to search for the man who is described by the RNSP as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing 220 pounds, wearing all black clothing, a black cap with red lettering and driving a 2002 to 2005 Nissan Altima. Anyone with information is requested to contact the RNSP at 917-727-7306.
